Hangman unblocked: play Hangman online free right here in your browser — no download, no sign-up, works on a school Chromebook.
This Hangman is a browser version of the old pencil-and-paper word game, made by MarketJS and added to Poki in April 2020. Each round shows a clue and a row of blanks. You guess the hidden word one letter at a time, and every wrong letter adds another piece to the drawing of a stickman on the gallows.
How a round works
The clue names the topic the answer belongs to, such as Fruits or Countries. The letters are on an on-screen keyboard. Click a letter with the mouse, or tap it on a phone or tablet, and it is checked against the word: a correct letter fills in every blank where it appears, and a wrong one is marked and costs you a part of the figure.
The figure appears piece by piece, from the rope to the head, body, arms and legs. Pick a wrong letter seven times and the stickman is hanged, which ends the round as a loss. Fill in the whole word first and you win and move on to the next level.
The word topics
The answers in the game's word list are grouped under these clues:
- Animals, Insects and Fish
- Countries and Mythology
- Verbs and Professions
- Sports and Soccer
- Foods, Fruits, Vegetables and Kitchen Tools
- Body Parts and Clothes
- School Supplies and Household Items
Animals is by far the biggest group, with Countries and Verbs next, so those clues come up often. Body Parts answers are short everyday words like head, nose and hand.
Points and diamonds
You earn points for each correct letter, and the game keeps a high score. It also has a second currency, diamonds. A diamond button on the play screen reveals one letter of the answer for you; it asks you to tap a second time to confirm, and it tells you when you do not have enough diamonds. Finishing a level adds a few diamonds to your pool.
Tips that follow from the rules
- Read the clue before guessing. Knowing the answer is a country or a kitchen tool narrows it down far more than the word length does.
- Save diamonds for the end of a hard word, when one revealed letter can be the difference between a win and a hanged stickman.
The settings menu has separate controls for music and sound effects, and there is a pause button during play.
