What this Blackjack is

This Blackjack is a small browser card game published on GitHub Pages by the developer markcuatrona23. It is a single-hand game against the computer dealer, built with JavaScript and jQuery, with picture cards for every card in the deck and a burst of confetti when you win. There is no betting, no chips and no bank balance: each round is simply you against the dealer, and the result is either a win for you or a win for the dealer.

How a round works

  1. Press New Game. A fresh deck of 52 cards is shuffled, and you and the dealer each get two cards.
  2. Your total and the dealer's total are both shown on screen, and both of the dealer's cards are face up from the start.
  3. Press Hit to take another card, as many times as you like.
  4. Press Stay when you are happy with your total. The dealer then draws.

The deck is rebuilt and reshuffled at the start of every round, so there is no card counting across hands.

Card values

  • Two to Nine count as their number.
  • Ten, Jack, Queen and King each count as 10.
  • An Ace counts as 1, or as 11 when that does not take the hand over 21.

How this version decides the winner

The rules in the script are not quite the casino ones, and knowing them changes how you play:

  • If your total goes over 21, you lose straight away.
  • When you stay, the dealer keeps drawing as long as its total is lower than yours. It does not stop at 17 like a real dealer.
  • If the dealer goes over 21 while drawing, you win.
  • If the dealer reaches your total or beats it, the dealer wins. A tie counts as a loss for you.
  • Finishing on exactly 21 when the dealer does not have 21 shows a "BLACKJACK!!" message with extra confetti from both sides of the screen.

Tips

  • You can see the dealer's full hand before you decide, so compare totals before every Hit.
  • Because the dealer must keep drawing until it matches or passes you, a high total forces it to take more cards and gives it more chances to bust.
  • Remember that a tie loses here. If the dealer already has 20, staying on 20 is not enough.
  • No card can raise a hand of 21 any higher, and the game does not stand for you automatically, so press Stay once you reach it.

Questions about Blackjack

Is Blackjack unblocked at school?

Blackjack runs in an ordinary browser tab from football-legends.io, with nothing to download or install, so it plays on most school Chromebooks and work computers. If a network filter blocks the site, only that network's administrator can change it.

Is there betting in this Blackjack game?

No. There are no chips or bets; each round is just a win for you or for the dealer.

What happens on a tie?

The dealer wins. The dealer only stops drawing once its total matches or beats yours.

How much is an Ace worth?

An Ace is 1, or 11 if that keeps your hand at 21 or less.

Can I see the dealer's cards?

Yes. Both dealer cards and the dealer's total are shown from the start of the round.
